During Winter quarter, Norah arranged to have Jimmy Ortiz and Jose Andres Alvarez Sanou come to The Ohio State University Department of Dance to share their contemporary dance technique with us. It was hard. Over spring break, we traveled to San Jose to take classes with them at their home base, Taller Nacional de la Danza: Conservatorio del Barco. This is some footage of their space and brief footage of the conservatory dancers rehearsing Opulpos. This space has one very large bright, beautiful studio space and two smaller ones upstairs. They have a full service kitchen, locker rooms and bathrooms with showers for their dancers. The whole space is bright and breezy, open to the sounds, smells and flavors of San Jose. This facility is fully staffed with professional instructors and complete full time administrative staff. This is an incredible space and is designed AND functions to meet the needs of a thriving dance conservatory and professional company. Thank you to Jimmy Ortiz for sharing this with us.
